I told him that even though Hawaii was not yet a state, it was still a territory and the attack was on our Naval Base, which was literally an attack on us. This was not something Americans of that era were used to. Even during WW1 the fight did not touch our soil.

I told him about my mother’s reaction when she heard the news about Pearl Harbor. Then I told him about my reaction to JFK’s assassination. I was dressed in a ball gown having my picture made for the year book with the other actors in my drama group. We were about to debut the play Anastasia. The photo that ended up in the year book was taken the moment the office switched on the intercom with no warning. The announcer was screaming that the president had been shot. Frozen in time in an aging school book - my dumbfounded expression. I also told him how I took the news about 911.

It occurred to me that there are now teachers who were but babes when the World Trade Center came down. They can only teach the history from book knowledge, not personal experience. That sobering thought makes me feel quite old. :-)meemahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09104303592278897991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9044571629293488418.post-26033829116950495252018-02-15T15:27:10.598-05:002018-02-15T15:27:10.598-05:00Speaking about a 'period piece' - at the g...Speaking about a 'period piece' - at the grocery store during a not-so-busy time of day, two young cashiers were discussing the President Kennedy era. I commented that I remember them. One said to me, "you don't look that old." I am sure he meant it as a compliment, however, I instantly felt every one of my years and then some. :DNannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02752706598297857540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9044571629293488418.post-64219838280064143332018-01-22T15:00:11.395-05:002018-01-22T15:00:11.395-05:00All good writers are over thinkers.
